Better Roads, Safe Streets Applauds Legislature’s Passage of AB 1923, Urges Governor Newsom to Sign

August 6, 2026 – The Better Roads, Safe Streets campaign today issued the following statement after the California Legislature’s passage of AB 1923, legislation that preserves Fresno County voters’ right to decide the future of local transportation funding this November.

“Today’s vote is a significant step forward in placing the Better Roads, Safe Streets measure on the November ballot. It’s a victory for democracy and for every resident of Fresno County.

“We are deeply grateful to Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria for her vision and determination in authoring AB 1923, and to Senator Anna Caballero for her steadfast leadership in steering this bill through the Senate. Their commitment ensured that the voices of Fresno County residents remained front and center, as they should in any citizen-led effort.

“A special thank you to the 11 Fresno County mayors and hundreds of county residents, especially our young people, who made the trip to Sacramento in support of this bill.
