Better Roads, Safe Streets Campaign Urges Board to Expedite Study and Meet August Ballot Deadline

Fresno, CA. — July 14, 2026 — The Better Roads, Safe Streets campaign is profoundly disappointed by the Board of Supervisors’ decision to delay placing this critical transportation measure on the November 2026 ballot. Having officially met and verified the required signatures, the thousands of local residents who backed this effort have earned the right to see this measure on the ballot this fall.

The Board of Supervisors has had the opportunity to study this measure for almost six months, ever since it was filed on January 26th. We strongly urge the Board to expedite this 30-day study and immediately schedule a special meeting ahead of the strict August ballot deadline. Every single day of delay puts our infrastructure at risk. Local road funding is the lifeblood of our communities. If the Board fails to place this measure before voters in November, our already neglected local roads, sidewalks, and neighborhood streets will spiral into further disrepair, worsening unsafe conditions for drivers, pedestrians, seniors, and students alike.

The cost of inaction is too high for our economy. A newly completed independent economic analysis concludes that the Better Roads, Safe Streets measure will create more than 68,000 local jobs and generate approximately $13.5 billion in economic output over the next 30 years—all while fixing potholes and upgrading neighborhood safety.

Fresno County communities cannot afford political detours or further delays. We call on the Board to finish this study swiftly and let the voters decide on their own transportation future this November.

The Better Roads, Safe Streets campaign is a community-led coalition working to develop a long-term transportation investment plan for Fresno County.
