City of Clovis Approves Resolution Supporting Better Roads, Safe Streets Transportation Measure

CLOVIS, CA. — March 17, 2026 — The Clovis City Council has approved a resolution expressing support for the Better Roads, Safe Streets transportation measure, a proposed Fresno County initiative that would continue the existing half-cent transportation sales tax for an additional 30 years without increasing the current rate.

The citizen-led measure, known as the Fresno County Transportation Improvement Act, is designed to invest in local transportation improvements while prioritizing student safety and neighborhood infrastructure, and is projected to generate an estimated $7.4 billion for transportation investments across Fresno County if approved by voters.

Measure C, the county’s current transportation sales tax originally approved by voters in 1986, is scheduled to expire in 2027. Funding from Measure C has supported roadway maintenance, traffic safety improvements, and other transportation infrastructure projects throughout Fresno County, including many projects within the City of Clovis.

“For decades, transportation funding from Measure C has provided critical resources that have helped the City of Clovis maintain our streets, improve safety, and support the transportation system our residents rely on every day,” said Vong Mouanoutoua. “As the current measure approaches its expiration, it is important that we continue investing in safe, reliable roads and infrastructure. The Better Roads, Safe Streets measure represents the best opportunity to expand our commitment to repairing local streets and roads, enhancing our trail system, and continuing to strengthen public transportation options throughout our city.”

City leaders emphasized that maintaining a stable and long-term funding source is critical to addressing growing transportation needs, improving roadway safety, and ensuring that local streets and infrastructure remain well maintained.

The Better Roads, Safe Streets measure proposes investments in a wide range of transportation priorities, including local street repairs, traffic congestion relief, student safety improvements near schools, and upgrades to neighborhood infrastructure across Fresno County communities.
By adopting the resolution, the Clovis City Council formally acknowledged the upcoming expiration of Measure C and expressed support for a citizen-led effort to continue transportation funding that benefits Clovis residents and the broader Fresno County region.

If approved by voters, the measure would provide long-term resources to maintain and improve roads, enhance public safety, and support transportation infrastructure that serves residents, businesses, and students across the county.
